Part 1:Personal Statement
I am committed to applying my psychological and analytical skills to enhance my client’s
quality of life. I have 19 years of experience working at Metalworking Lubricants at US Steel,
Pittsburgh. I earned my Master’s degree in Human Behaviour Studies from Capella University,
and I currently use this knowledge in my full-time position as I work with a diverse team. In
addition to using this knowledge at my workplace in my interactions with my colleagues, I can
use my skills with other members of society if I get licensed as a Human behavior analyst. I am
already working towards being licensed and will soon have the capacity to work with patients
and help them enhance the quality of their lives.
I am currently interested in pursuing a PhD in psychology in order to pursue my passion
for teaching at a community college. I look forward to being able to write books and work with
students who are passionate about psychology. After 19 years of working in a Steel company, I
am ready to explore the next phase of my career. A shift to psychology is huge and very different
from what I have been doing for almost two decades now. However, I am excited about the
change, and I am ready and up o the task.
Part 2: Mentorship Exchange
Hello Professor, writing my personal statement made me acknowledge my educational
journey. For a moment, I sat and reflected about the many times I felt like quitting and now that I
can see the progress, I am glad I persisted. I have several Master’s programs, some relating to
psychology and others totally different, that is still pending. Writing about my academic
achievements in the personal statement made me rethink my decisions, and now I will create

time and complete them because they will help me accomplish the different roles that I aim to
achieve in my career in psychology. Also, I am pursuing this PhD because I want to venture
deeper into the field of psychology and diversify my role. Other than being a behavior analyst, I
also hope that in future, I will be able to find a teaching position at a local community college.
This will really be great because I studied teaching in my undergraduate studies. Other than
psychology, I am also very passionate about sharing knowledge. Being able to help people
realize their dreams by sharing the knowledge that I have with them always satisfies me in a
great way, and I look forward to this next phase of my career.
When taking a professional course, pursuing a course such as a PhD in psychology, and
still developing one’s career and working, it is often difficult to separate personal experiences
and scholarly pursuits. However, now that I am awaiting licensure as a behavioral analyst and
will venture into the world of psychology very soon, I look forward to ensuring that I allocate
time to each of the facets of my life so that I can achieve a work-life balance.
Further, diversity is such a broad term that means different things to different people. In
my view, diversity entails variance or difference. It entails different cultural backgrounds,
personalities, lived experiences, preferences, religious affiliations, age, social status, and many
other attributes that make each one of us unique. In my current position, diversity comes to play
a lot of times because the company has wide representations. There are people from all walks of
life in terms of races, cultures, genders and other aspects that make us all different. I have
realized that embracing multicultural awareness and maintaining an open mind is key when
interacting with a diverse group. People’s lived experiences tend to influence their behaviors,
thoughts and actions. When we embrace multicultural awareness, it becomes possible to
maintain healthy interpersonal relationships.

My personal experiences, especially having been in a diverse work environment, are
likely to alter my perspective on diversity. I believe in the beauty of diversity. When people
bring out their different strengths, abilities, and experiences, they are able to put in the effort and
produce quality work, especially in the work environment. From a psychological perspective, a
professional who embraces multiculturalism is able to provide tailored services to clients. They
are able to understand how a client’s background can affect their behavior in a certain situation
and thus tailor interventions to include the client’s specific lived experience. Overall, the world is
fast evolving and in my role as a behavior analyst, I will most likely work with a very diverse
client base. I believe that I am up to the task, not only because of my experiences at work but
also because I have acquired adequate psychological knowledge to enable me to meet the needs
of the diverse population. This is my initial text submission. I am looking forward to interacting
