To start, you canI have chosen to write on poverty and income inequality. I have selected the causes
and consequences of income inequality globally. Inequality has been growing over the years.
The poorest members of society continue to suffer as a result of the uneven distribution of
resources. In addition, while economies have continued to grow and expand, the gap between
the rich and the poor continues to grow, and this means that the issue needs to be examined
closely to ensure that viable solutions are advanced. My paper’s thesis statement is “to
promote inclusive growth; the minimum wage needs to be raised to ensure that the working
class is compensated adequately for the services they offer.”
The population that is affected by income inequality is the working class. The
working class constitutes the majority in many nations. These individuals work hard and
sometimes undertake odd jobs to ensure that they make ends meet. The nature of the
minimum wage in many jurisdictions fails to consider the changes in the economy that have
occurred over time. The working class is thus locked in poverty, and the implication is that
they are unable to get a way out of poverty. Racial and gender inequalities that are part of
income inequality can only be eliminated through raising the minimum wage and, in so
doing, ensuring that the working class earns a fairer wage. Statistical data that I found
surprising relates to the fact that poverty mainly affects racial minorities. There is a huge gap
between the whites and racial minorities in whites as it pertains to poverty and income
distribution (Lichter Qian, & Crowley, 2005).
