What field are you working on?
I am working on the nursing field, especially the nursing shortage in the United States. Many
healthcare facilities in the U.S. have a shortage of nurses, which makes it challenging to provide
quality care to all patients.
What do you see as the important problem?
The important problem is the shortage of nurses to deliver quality care to patients. The nursing
shortage is caused by numerous factors, including the high number of retiring nurses and the
poor working environment in healthcare facilities.
Do you have examples of this problem?
There are numerous examples of the problem, especially in the healthcare organizations in the
U.S. Healthcare organizations such as Mayo Clinic experience nurse shortage problem, which
significantly affects their ability to deliver timely and quality care to patients.
What is your change?
I have proposed several changes that can help reduce the nursing shortage in the United States.
One of the changes is the creation of a conducive working environment in healthcare
organizations, including reducing weekly overtime. Additionally, I have proposed the inclusion
of diversity in the admission process to reduce unequal access to nursing education, which
mainly affects the minority groups.
Who would be responsible for implementing this change?
The implementation of the changes can be done by nurse managers in healthcare organizations,
who can create a conducive working environment for nurses. Additionally, the changes can be

implemented by nursing school administrators who can incorporate diversity in the admission
process.
How would your change improve the situation posed by the problem?
The changes would increase the number of students pursuing a nursing degree. Additionally, the
changes would improve nurse retention, which limits the movement of nurses from one
organization to another.
Do you have any notable sources that are helping you?
I have a friend who is a nurse who has significantly helped me in conducting research about the
nursing shortage. My friend has particularly taken me around the facility she works at to help me
see the problems posed by the nursing shortage.
