behavioral perspective. Journal of interpersonal violence, 35(23-24), 5198-5227.
In the paper, the researcher conducted a study to determine the effectiveness of using
cognitive-behavioral therapy among victims of intimate partner violence. Various
studies have found cognitive-behavioral therapy to be more effective than the Duluth
model in treating victims of violence. Through his study, Ager sought to present
empirical evidence in support of the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy. In
the study, the researcher interviewed 12 victims of intimate partner violence before
and after they underwent cognitive behavioral therapy. Of interest to the researcher
were the victims’ interactions, feelings, behaviors, and cognitions. The study found
that cognitive behavioral therapy was effective in treating abuse victims as the victims
showed great improvements after going through cognitive behavioral therapy
interventions.

impact of a cognitive-behavioral intervention for women in domestic violence
situations in Brazil. Universitas Psychologica, 17(3), 52-62.
The researchers sought to find out an effective intervention protocol for women who
had experienced domestic violence in Brazil. They developed an intervention protocol
based on cognitive behavioral therapy. The protocol included psychoeducation
techniques, gradual exposure to traumatic memories, cognitive restructuring, and
problem resolution. They then applied the protocol to 11 women in Brazil who had
been victims of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse perpetrated by their
partners. They recorded the severity of the symptoms of the abuse such as depression,
3
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), level of life satisfaction, and anxiety. They
then took each of the victims through 13 psychotherapy sessions. The results of the
study showed that after going through the psychotherapy sessions, the victims showed
great reduction in stress symptoms, anxiety, and depression. The results of the study
provide further evidence of the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy in
treating victims who have been traumatized by past experiences of violence.
