to help them achieve corporate goals. Such leaders possess skills, behaviors, and traits that are
important to those in the process of becoming leaders. This paper is a reflection of a person I
consider an excellent role model. My immediate supervisor is a skillful and tactical leader. One
of her most important skills is charisma. Charismatic leaders can influence people, which is
essential because leaders must ensure that their followers share a unity of purpose (Northouse,
2020). It is difficult to convince people to follow a shared vision without charisma. The
supervisor is also knowledgeable and ready to learn. She reads many books and is always up to
date with the current trends in corporate leadership. She has instilled in her followers the culture
to acquire new knowledge through organizing training and helping stock our work library.
She is empathetic. Empathy helps leaders to better understand and relate to the issues that
employees deal with. This helps to maintain good leader-follower relations, and it also makes
leaders sociable, which helps to improve interactions with other employees.
I believe that she performs equally well as a manager and leader. She can manage
departmental resources and allocate them to her team. She demonstrates good organizational
skills and delegation of duties and responsibilities. Management skills ensure that administrative
tasks are completed within the allocated timelines and that the resources are appropriately
utilized to reduce waste (Northouse, 2020). As a team leader, she can align departmental goals
with corporate goals. Under her leadership, our team contributes effectively to achieving
corporate goals. As a leader, she has managed to maintain departmental stability and motivation.
She has helped her team members develop their skills and improve their work output. When

employees are developed and motivated, they enjoy their work more, providing departmental and
organizational stability by reducing employee turnover (Sarros et al., 2014).
One of the most important lessons I have learned from her is that leaders need to be
ambassadors for their teams. The supervisor represents us in corporate meetings and gives our
grievances a voice. Therefore, we can provide her with our grievances because we know they
will be presented and addressed. Another lesson I have learned is that leadership is a continuous
and lifelong practice. It is impossible to demonstrate leadership qualities at work or in corporate
settings. Leadership traits become habits and form part of the subconscious. With time and
practice, leadership becomes natural. I have also learned that leaders must demonstrate high
levels of emotional intelligence. Leaders deal with many different personalities in the course of
their work. Leaders cannot choose which personalities to tolerate since leadership cannot be
applied selectively. Therefore, leaders need to be supportive and learn to control their
temperament to remain approachable to their followers.
