Reflection Virtue and Teleology

Being a minister is one of the major spheres of my life where values are essential to
succeed. Despite not being a pastor, I serve on the ministerial staff of my local church and
teach at the internal Bible college. Being an example and inspiring others to have a
connection with Jesus is the ultimate goal of this position. Serving in this role, many
attributes are necessary, including integrity, loyalty, fortitude, and generosity. Who would
trust a dishonest person with their soul? Therefore, the pastor must be trustworthy. People do
not want to follow someone who has not been faithful in their walk with God; thus,
faithfulness is necessary. The ability to stand up for what is right even when no one else does
is another essential quality for a minister.
The last and most important requirement is charity or love of others because these
other virtues are easy to exhibit if a person truly loves others. Without these characteristics, a
minister would be one in the name. If someone sought to serve as a minister without having
these characteristics, many people would suffer harm, and many lives would be lost. Virtues
required as a minister, for instance, charity, possess too much of what Aristotle describes
because one has to love for others truly, and that will be their driving force to charity.
Consequently, it affects those who view these virtues in the sense that, more often than not,
people also talk highly about the principles they cannot do on their account. I, therefore,
describe myself as possessing “too much” of these qualities.
