SMART Goals

Achieving success in all areas of life requires one to come up with clear goals. Goal
setting helps one to think about their future and, in so doing, turn the vision into reality. Goals
help one to know where they want to go in life and what it will take to achieve the goals set. In
my case, one of my short-term SMART academic goals is to ensure that I complete all my
assignments on time. I need to ensure that I create a schedule that will ensure that I work on all
assignments ahead of their scheduled due dates. I have other responsibilities, including taking
care of my children and working. As a result, I need a workable schedule that will help me
achieve this goal. My professional goal is to be employed as a high school teacher in the next
five years after completing my education degree program. I have always wanted to be a teacher,
and I have taken the first step towards achieving this goal. I find teaching to be a fulfilling career
and, therefore, will ensure that I work hard towards achieving this goal.
Three Strengths
One strength that I possess is that I am a strong-willed learner. I work alone and work
hard towards the achievement of my goals. I set up schedules that help me achieve the goals that
I have written it down. I always like to be in control of my plans, and this means that I can create a
strong plan that will help me ensure that I finish all my assignments on time. By following
the plans that I lay down strictly, I will also be able to achieve my professional goal after the
completion of my bachelor’s degree.
Another strength that I have is that I am time conscious and hardworking. In the
workplace, my coworkers like my work ethic, since I am both hard-working and

time conscious. I have had to put up with long schedules at the workplace. Even during long
work schedules, I have always maintained my focus and worked towards the achievement of
success. I am always on time when meetings are scheduled, and I hate when people fail to keep
time. I have always met deadlines, even in the most difficult circumstances. I believe that this is
one of the strengths that will help me achieve both my academic and professional goals. I will
strive to ensure that I complete my assignments on time and will not give up, even when faced
with various obstacles.
Opportunities
One challenge that I face is ensuring that I create a healthy work-life balance. I am a
parent and have to ensure that I create time for both my children and my husband. In addition, I
also have to ensure that I create enough time for my studies. Creating a healthy work-life balance
will ensure that I do not experience burnout. I believe that by creating a health schedule, I will be
able to achieve my goals both at a personal level and a professional level. I will seek the help of
my husband and will also talk to my supervisor to ensure that I get help where need be.
As a strong-willed individual, one challenge is that people may feel intimidated by me. In
addition, another challenge that I may face is that I may be afraid of showing my weakness. A
strong-willed person is always willing to be in control, and this may pose a significant challenge
in the workplace environment. Achievement of workplace-related goals requires me to work in
teams. Without teamwork, organizational goals cannot be achieved. As a teacher, I have to
cooperate with all stakeholders without intimidating them. I also have to consult without being
afraid that I will show my weaknesses. I plan on ensuring that I embrace teamwork and consult
where necessary without fearing that my weaknesses will be exposed.
