To start, you canHistory books provide proof of more than 250 anti-slavery uprisings in North
America during the 17 th , 18 th , and 19 th centuries with each involving around 10 or more
individuals. The topmost infamous resistance movements occurred during the 19 th century
and included uprisings by Nat Turner in Southampton County, Virginia (1831), Denmark
Vesey in Charleston, South Carolina (1822), and Gabriel Prosser in Virginia (1800)
(Boundless, n.d.). Turner’s revolt involved around 70 slaves resulting in the death of 55 to 65
individuals. Historians consider Turner’s revolt as a landmark event in America. Turner and
his fellow slaves rampaged several plantations in Virginia but within a few days, their
ammunition ran out resulting in their capture. Even though Turner was eventually captured,
he and other participants inspired fear among slave owners and proponents of slavery.
The other largest rebellions involved over 500 slaves in 1811, in New Orleans. The
revolt resulted in the death of 2 white men, and 95 blacks, and another 44 after the uprising
(Boundless, n.d.). Even though the slave masters and government were able to suppress most
of the uprisings, slave disobedience and runaways increased indicating how powerful these
uprisings could be in inspiring people to act. Indirectly, these movements were successful in
creating the path for the abolition of slavery.
Seneca Falls 1848 Occurrences
Seneca Falls 1848 marked the first women’s rights convention in the US. The meeting
initiated the suffrage movement of women. This event was a landmark in securing women’s
right to vote decades later. The convention sought to seek justice for women’s social,
religious, and civil rights. The meeting occurred between 19 th and 20 th July 1848, at Wesleyan
Chapel (History.com Editors, 2017). Even though the meeting lacked publicity, 300
individuals attended. Among the topics of discussion included 11 resolutions concerning
women’s where all passed unanimously except for the right to vote.
