The core principles of ethics are beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, and justice

The course on healthcare ethics is not only interesting but also insightful. I have
learned a lot throughout the course. One of the most interesting things I learned is the
principles of healthcare ethics. The core principles of ethics are beneficence, non-
maleficence, autonomy, and justice. Beneficence is the principle that states that healthcare
professionals should strive to do good. Healthcare workers must also ensure that they strive
to not harm and that they are fair in the execution of various tasks. Patients
must also be involved in the decision-making process and, in so doing, guarantee autonomy.
These principles play an important role in the healthcare sector.
Another important thing I learned is applying the various ethical
theories. Ethical theories provide an important framework that one can use when making
ethical decisions. The main ethical theories are utilitarianism and deontology. I was able to
study the differences between the two and how each can be applied in the healthcare sector.
While utilitarianism focuses on the consequences of ethical decisions, deontology is based on
virtues. I would like to explore the theories more. I would like to learn more about the
theories and understand the differences as well as the similarities. I would want to be
acquitted with the application of these theories and come up with a theory that I will apply in
the future.
