Week 2 Discussion

Based on my experience with healthcare information systems, I can comfortably attest
that the systems are beneficial for in-patient care delivery. First, I can attest that health
information systems provide instant access to details of patients. It is vital to acknowledge that
health information systems (HIS) help in collecting and analyzing data and make it available for
nurses to make prompt treatment decisions. Additionally, during my interaction with HIS, the
number of medical errors significantly reduced. It is vital to acknowledge that health information
systems reduce paperwork and make everything automated, which increases precision and
accuracy (Khalifa, 2017). Also, health information systems help in improving patient safety
because the rate of occurrence of medical errors is significantly reduced because health
professionals can access patient data swiftly and administer prompt treatment to patients.
The transition from manual to automated health information is often challenging. I find it
difficult to deal with health information systems because it requires additional training. Notably,
I have to possess technical skills and knowledge for the effective use of health information
systems, which can only be achieved through training. As much as the transition was difficult, I
was delighted because I had an opportunity to learn to use automated devices, which
significantly improved my expertise. My experience with health information systems has taught
me the importance of accuracy and precision, which guarantees the improved quality of care.
The medical record exposure in nursing school has significantly improved my nursing
knowledge. First, I have learned that health information systems have the ability to keep patient
data safe from access by unauthorized personnel. Additionally, I have learned that HIS help in
improving clinical procedures, which ensures that patients receive better care.
