To start, you can

DNP-trained nurses are often required to develop competencies in applying empirical
evidence in clinical practice (Gray & Grove, 2020). This includes understanding how different
research methods (sampling, study design, and measurement) are employed. This discussion
summarizes Yeom’s (2021) study, including goals and purpose, nonparametric and parametric
tests, strengths and weaknesses of the study, and how recommendations and findings contribute
to EBP for nursing.

Goals and purpose of the research study

The study’s objective was to examine the internal factors influencing the causal beliefs about
high blood pressure/hypertension among Korean patients and their effect on medication
compliance and self-care intention.
How nonparametric tests are used in the research study and the results of their use
Bartlett’s sphericity test was used to examine the sampling adequacy of the factor analysis
method. The sample was found to be statistically significant (p < 0.5). Also, internal consistency
was measured using Cronbach’s alpha (Yeom, 2021).
What parametric methods are inappropriate for statistical analysis of the research study’s

data

All parametric statistical methods seem appropriate to this study, including ANOVA, t-test, and
regression analysis. For example, logistic and linear regression analyses were used to test the
effect of causal beliefs about high blood pressure on medication compliance and self-care
intention.
The strengths and weaknesses of the research study (e.g., study design, sampling, and

measurement)

WEEK 8 DISCUSSION: STATISTICAL ANALYSIS 3
Strengths: study applies convenience sampling, ‘valid’ questionnaire-based tools (such as
adjusted IPQ-R), and parametric statistical methods like ANOVA, t-test, and regression analysis.
Weakness: convenience sampling makes it challenging to generalize outcomes (Guest & Namey,
2014). Self-administered questionnaires also make the study prone to social desirability bias
among respondents.
How the findings and recommendations of the study could contribute to evidence-based

practice for nursing

The study outcomes found that patient’s perceptions/views about high blood pressure can affect
their medical compliance and intention to seek medical help (Yeom et al., 2021). The study
underscores the importance of nurses considering patient perceptions about hypertension when
developing nursing interventions.
